South - Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Company description: South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) is an innovative higher education institution driven by the idea of unlimited lifelong learning and study. We promote well-being and sustainable development through global networking and by creating new digital solutions. Xamk is the second largest UAS in Finland in terms of budget; annual turnover is EUR 70 million. Region of operations are Southern Savonia and Kymenlaakso: four campuses in the cities of Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli and Savonlinna. The number of staff ca. 750, 9000 students with 1700 graduates per year. We offer 60 Bachelor’s programmes, 23 Master’s programmes and extensive RDI activities. Xamk has 350 partner institutions around the world and receives approximately 600 international students each year representing over 20 countries. Xamk profiles as a strong implementer of research, development and innovation (RDI) activities. With over 180 ongoing projects / 41M EUR (31.12.2016), we are one of the Finland’s largest University of Applied Sciences in RDI. Research is reinforced with wide research infrastructure and through the degree programs by engaging students. The aim of our RDI is to increase wellbeing and competitiveness in the region and in business life. 

Role in the project: XAMK is participating in the implementation of all the work packages (WP) of SMART GROUND project. XAMK is also leading the WP1 and one of the tasks in the WP4.
